The idea that pesticides are necessary to feed the world’s fast-growing population is “inaccurate and misleading”, a UN report has warned.

The document, which is expected to be presented to the UN Human Rights Council this week, strongly denounced the “aggressive promotion” of pesticides by the industry as experts found the chemicals had “catastrophic impacts on the environment, human health and society as a whole”.

If humanity does nothing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Wallace-Wells writes, prehistoric ice could unleash million-year-old bacteria, sparking devastating disease outbreaks. Thicker, hotter air could bring a “rolling death smog that suffocates millions.” Drought, heat, and crop failure in conflict-ridden zones could create “perpetual war” and violent death. “It is, I promise, worse than you think,” he declares. “No matter how well-informed you are, you are surely not alarmed enough.”

11.07.2017 – Hamburg (ots) - Mit 47 Prozent steht fast die Hälfte der Bundesbürger hinter der Forderung der Grünen, ab 2030 nur noch abgasfreie Kraftfahrzeuge neu zuzulassen - darunter erwartungsgemäß 79 Prozent der Anhänger der Grünen, aber auch mehrheitlich die Sympathisanten von Linkspartei (65 Prozent) und SPD (53 Prozent). Nach einer Forsa-Umfrage im Auftrag des stern ist die Bevölkerung in dieser Frage gespalten. Denn 46 Prozent der Deutschen lehnen die Grünen-Forderung ab - darunter mehrheitlich die Anhänger von AfD (72 Prozent), FDP (57 Prozent) und CDU/CSU (53 Prozent).
